Acoustical systems: analogies | Part 2: equivalent circuits

Large tube opening into a small tube

We consider here the case of a large tube opening into a small duct.

The examination of the the first element shows that it opens into a smaller cross section. In this case, and at low frequencies, the air in this element is mainly submitted to a compression effect. The system (large duct) is equivalent to a duct which opens onto a wall. It is thus an acoustic compliance.
