Wavelength

The wavelength is the spatial equivalent of the time period. It is the smallest distance, over a fixed time , in which the wave is identically reproduced.

The wavelength also corresponds to the distance travelled by a wave in one period . As the wave travels at the speed , we therefore obtain the following relation between the quantities:

For audible sounds, the wavelength varies over a large scale : from at to at . We can see that the wavelength can be very large, or very small, relative to everyday objects.
